Textile Lab Amsterdam

The Textile Lab operates at the intersection of tech, textile industry and innovate business development.

The lab is based in the Waag castle in Amsterdam and is part of Waag Society: The Netherlands’ leading research and technology institute hosting multiple Fablabs, Wetlabs and making labs where new materials and innovations are created and tested.

Founded in 2015 by Ista Boszhard and Cecilia Raspanti, the Textile Lab was the generator behind several groundbraking innovations giving us a glimpse of what the future of fashion may look like. Think of bacterial dyes, microbial leather, fish leather, bio plastics, natural dyes, digital fabrication and manipulation of materials. Both production process and material innovations are the core of an extended research agenda.

Together with Ista and Cecilia I developed a language to translate the lab’s innovations into value propositions for the private market, created a media kit and developed new projects and partnerships with brands, young talent and organisations focusing on sustainability and industry development.
